UnWholly by Neal Shusterman
5.0
At the beginning of the book, before the story even starts, there's a little note from Neal Shusterman: "Wishing you a nail-biting, sleep-depriving, thought-provoking read!" I laughed more than I should have.
He pretty much hit the nail on the head, though--UnWholly was nail-biting (in a metaphorical sense, because I've never made a habit of biting nails, or any other hard-iron construction implements, for that matter), thought-provoking, and sleep-depriving. Although not quite so much as [b:Unwind|6319969|Unwind (Unwind, #1)|Neal Shusterman|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327983786s/6319969.jpg|750423], to be truthful.
Yes, it's true. UnWholly didn't quite have the same jaw-dropping shock moments as its prequel, and though it did have its own (of course), I don't feel as if they had the same sort of emotional impact--probably because I was, in a way, expecting them. I mean, I don't put money in my wallet without expecting to spend it. This is obviously the exact same kind of situation.
So I would say my rating is more of a 4.5 than a 5, just because I don't feel as wholly (haaa) affected by UnWholly as I did with Unwind, regardless of it still being a good book and a great read. Or maybe a 4.7. I can never really decide.
As a post-script, it just so happens that one of my local libraries has, not one, but two copies of the next book in this series, [b:UnSouled|12792658|UnSouled (Unwind, #3)|Neal Shusterman|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1378899523s/12792658.jpg|17940593]. And--Oh! Look at that! It would seem that I am due for a trip to the library, as I have two books to return! What a convenient coincidence! ;)
