matouli 's review for:
Girl in the Walls
by A.J. Gnuse
Wow, what a book. This is not the usual genre of book I would read, I am more of a fantasy and historical romance reader. But I really enjoyed this novel, it had themes of grief and loss and belonging. It asked the reader to consider what life is and what counts as a life/living? It is a book that causes you to think about what life means to you.
Not only that, the books takes on a gothic horror essence that is not too scary but makes you keep reading that is very reminiscent of traditional gothic horror books.
Gnuse does an amazing job of helping the reader to understand Elise and why she is part of the house.
The ending is great as well as the reader dies not need to guess too much, there is not an annoying amount of uncertainty as there is with other books, yet the reader is still left free to continue Elise's and other characters lives in their own exciting imaginations.
