One of my all time favourite tween fiction books. The Lightning Thief perfectly sets up the rest of the series and is probably at least my 3rd favourite of the 5.
Rick Riordan carefully introduced learning disabilities into this novel, in a way that made every child feel heard and understood. He also created a whole new view of greek mythology in relation to Western culture.
This book holds such a place in my heart because it reintroduced my love for literature. I first read it as an 11 year old hoping for a Satyr to pick me up, now at 15 I still would. Definitely a great piece as is the rest of his work. Highly recommend IF you like mythology (greek in particular), enjoy fantasy/fiction novels and, need a quick and easy piece.
