What You Are Looking For Is in the Library by Michiko Aoyama

1.0

I genuinely wanted this book to work for me but I found it nearly impossible to enjoy.

The slow pace wasn’t the issue. I love books that drag on because I enjoy learning about even the smallest of details and never want to part ways with a good story too soon.

The main problem is I just found it incredibly boring. I understand the significance behind perfecting the perfect castella, but honestly the last thing I want to do after a long day is read about someone cooking for pages on end. It felt tedious.

I also dislike the lack of chapter use. I’m not particularly inclined to sit through 65 pages at night about someone’s ordinary life, especially after living my own for that day. Yet I also hate having to stop in the middle of a scene, only to come back to yet another cooking segment (it haunts me).

Ultimately, this book made reading feel like a chore. This is one of the very few books I’m incapable of pushing through and finish. I just can’t sit through it — it feels like I’m torturing myself which is such a shame because I had high expectations.
