Om jag inte hade sett honom by Kevin Brooks

Ooof, where to start with this one? If you know me or have been following my reviews for some time, you already know that I don't need much to rate a book 4-5 stars. And even the books that probably aren't deserving pf such ratings, objectively. If I love something, I rate it highly. Why not?
But oh god this one. I think I can say that I have already read a fair amount of YA fiction and most of it awoken my 15-year old self, my fangirl era. But Lucas is different. It's not "just another book for teenagers" that is slightly dark and gloomy. No, it is about grieving, injustice, xenophobia, envy and many more. I like to think of Lucas as a metaphor. For what, I am not entirely sure. He, for me, embodies all the kids and young people who don't belong, who face hard times just because thy are different. He is someone unreal, other-worldly, walking among us just to show us "the right path". There are many strange moments and I couldn't but think of the Joan Osbourne song "One of us". Now don't be confused, I am not catholic and I don't think this is the intention of the book. The parallels I see is that Lucas is this strange boy who changes lives of so many people in extremely short time in a very dramatic way. But it's important. His story is the one of what the injustice and false accusations can do to not only the individual, but also to everyone else involved. How it festers, slowly spreading decay amongst the community.
Ah, my thoughts are getting all mixed up, but trust me with this one.
Loved, 10 stars. ❤️
