Magic is returning to Kiata. And with the demons of the Holy Mountains stirring, Shiori needs to fulfill her promise. And quick. After travelling to Ai’ long, Shiori comes back to Kiata and once again faces the threat of magic and demons; and a fate she can no longer escape. This astounding sequel brings Shiori’s story to a bittersweet end. Overall, the beauty of this tale lies in its emphasis on grief, strength, love, and loyalty. This is the first I’ve truly enjoyed another male lead in a YA book! The romance in this story gave off such a very intimate feeling that I wanted to look away at times. Takkan had unforgettable lines and his devotion to Shiori is truly unremarkable despite the uncertainties of their intertwined fates. As for the six crimson cranes, the princes’ banter and dynamic was a perfect touch to this sequel that both started and ended with them. I highly recommend this duology!
