My main feeling coming away from Slow Horses is that I wish I hadn't watched the TV show before reading it as, whilst the various twists and turns were all spoiled for me, the reveals all seemed to be well done and surprising and probably would have kept me on my toes. It is always fun to see what you can work out for yourself and for me, in this instance, I didn't get the opportunity.
I enjoyed the further insights into the backgrounds of characters like Ho and Catherine but the book was also lacking a lot of the depth that has been added into the show.
There were a few smatterings of sexism, racism, and homophobia which were disappointing and of the type of a straight white man who doesn't even notice he is doing it.
I think that on the whole whilst these are decent spy stories, I will probably stick with the TV show rather than continue doing both.
