Darken the Stars by Amy A. Bartol
5.0

I'm not even sure where to start with this one... I've actually been thinking long and hard about what I would say in a review.

First, I was somehow under the impression that the Kricket Series was a trilogy... It does say series in the description though so let's hope that's not the case and more will be published. I found this book to be as good as any other title in the series, which is to say that I loved it! The plot moved along quickly, and I was once again sucked into the world of Ethar. For the people complaining about the author's choices well... I didn't like the end of the Divergent trilogy either!!! Just because you don't like the way things stand with characters doesn't mean the book is bad. The fact that all of us even care about Kricket and what happens to her proves that the series is great. If not, why would it matter???

To be specific, everything comes to a head in this book. Trey and the Cavars have new allies and not everyone in that group has Kricket's best interest at heart. If you've read any descriptions, you already know that Kricket becomes Kyon's consort. When I read that before starting the book, I couldn't imagine that I would actually root for them as a couple OR continue to feel so invested in her making it work with Trey. I don't want to ruin anything so I'm just going to say... NOTHING is as I expected it to be, and somehow all of Amy Bartol's choices actually make for a more interesting story. Is life simple? No. Is it worth investing in this series? Yes! I could get down and beg Amy to bring Kricket's story to a real conclusion, but I'm hopelessly optimistic that she plans to do just that...

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
