The Brothers Karamazov
by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Long, but good. There were parts of the novel where I wanted to give up and skip a few pages, (I read this for an honors class in college, and 15 of the 17 students in the class admitted that they turned to spark notes), but I kept going, and it was worth it. I found it rewarding to discover all of the ties between the characters and the connections in their individual life stories. The characters are constantly changing - it is hard to know the true motives of each character, and I found my opinion of each brother changing as the story continued. Each character really grows as a result of his (or her) actions and watching them grow was really enjoyable for me.
