Gunslinger Girl
by Lyndsay Ely
I'll be honest, I never go out of my way to pick up a Western, but since I enjoyed Kerri Maniscalo's books from Jimmy Patterson, and the premise of GUNSLINGER GIRL interested me enough to pick it up when it was on sale. And I am so glad that I did! It's completely unique in its world, and as you're reading, you feel like you're on a journey with feisty, wandering soul Pity Jones. The story is very strong, and now that I've finished it, I found the book to be great for readers who enjoy witnessing characters finding themselves. I absolutely love the characters and side characters who were so much fun. Pity herself is a great heroine with a contradictory, yet honest and realistic personality. I was constantly cheering for her. Max is adorable and a refreshing love interest, especially since he still maintains his secrets and isn't insanely stubborn. The action is solid, especially around the end, and the writing is great. I hope a lot of YA readers pick this one up because it's a refreshing change to the genre and a fantastic weekend read.
