Appetite for Innocence by Lucinda Berry

3.0

This felt a little bit like The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchinson and a little bit like The Quiet Tenant by Clémence Michallon. I say that because a man is kidnapping young girls, holding them hostage, then they escape and now we’re going back through the events to find out who, what, when, where, and why.

Much of the novel is set at the hospital where Ella and Sarah are recovering. They’re surrounded by the FBI who will stop at nothing to find the man responsible but Sarah isn’t helping the situation. She’s definitely hiding something. What really infuriated me besides the disgusting stuff that man did to those girls and all that was Ella’s mom completely ignoring the advocate’s advice regarding Sarah, and Ella’s relationship with her.

If you enjoy these sorts of stories I think you’ll enjoy this one too, but make sure you look up content warning prior to reading because Lucinda Berry does not shy away from the details.
