Dungeons & Dragons: A Darkened Wish #1 by B. Dave Walters, Tess Fowler

3.0

A very good start.

We begin, as most things Dungeons and Dragons do, with the gathering of a party. And as seems typical of Dungeons and Dragons parties, the character we bring to the table is the one we know the most about. In this case it's Helene, a human spell caster of some sort ( I want to say a Divine Soul Sorcerer). We meet her as she is leaving home to become an adventurer and we get a little insight into her life at home. The rest of the party are introduced as we go along, but not with any real in depth background info. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just the first issue, and it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for total strangers to go into long monologues about their history. And it really works for some characters like Solvigant, who is just as mysterious to the cast as to the reader. But it causes concerns in connection with the book ends of the issue and how long this series is set to run. My understanding is that this is a limited series and not an ongoing title. So I'm very hopeful that they're going to have enough issues to get the setups done for the payoffs later.

The art is very well done. I rather enjoy some of the establishing shots of locations and crowded environments.

I am quite looking forward to issue 2 to see where things go from here.
