The Son by Philipp Meyer
2.0
If you like your cliches written large, this book is for you. The only interesting material (that's what added the second star) was on the life of the Comanches, but even this information felt forced, possibly because I have a difficult time believing 19th century Comanches spoke like 21st Century creative writing majors. I happened to be reading "Old Yeller" to my kids at the same time I was reading this; that book runs circles around this one, has more power and smarts in every sentence than this one does in it's 500 plus pages. Okay, I'm taking that star back and deputizing Gipson with it. Meyer doesn't deserve it for his high falutin' trash.
