Things I loved and appreciated in this book:
- Illustration of how suicidal thoughts aren't just a one-time thing.
- The differences in the two characters who experience suicidal thoughts, showing that suicide isn't a "type."
- Parents are present and involved in this YA novel.
- The teen relationship is realistic, in my opinion. Not too "head over heels," doesn't rush right to sex, there's some hesitancy.
- The travel element. I loved seeing these two discover their local treasures.
For some reason this book is reminiscent of If I Stay to me. Both the sibling relationship and the romantic relationship remind me of If I Stay.
This book covers a hard topic with both depth and lightness. It doesn't treat the topic lightly, but the whole book isn't a downer (hence the name All the Bright Places, maybe?)
Graphic: Suicidal thoughts, Suicide, Suicide attempt
Moderate: Death, Car accident
