Rhymes and Legends (Selection)/Rimas y Leyendas (selección): A Dual-Language Book by Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer

mysterious medium-paced

3.75

I haven’t actually read this book, I’ve read seven of his legends for school and I feel weird marking each one as read because that would inflate my reading challenge with books that are five pages long so I decided instead to say that the seven legends equal two books. I’m reviewing each on individually though because I have thoughts.
El Monte de las ánimas: 3.5 ⭐️ The first few acts were really hard to get into, but I can appreciate a good ending.
Los ojos verdes: 4 ⭐️ Why am I thinking of doing a retelling of this legend? It was good! Wished it was little bit more impactful though.
Maese Pérez, el organista: 2.5 ⭐️ “I don’t know what’s going on and I simply don’t want to know.”
El beso: 4 ⭐️ This one was one of the easiest to read. The ending could be taken in a humorous way or a tragic one and I think both are good. If Gustavo meant for it to be taken the funny way this is probably the only happy story lol.
La promesa: 4.5 ⭐️ This was reeeeeally good. I got shivers in the end 🥶. Some of the middle was kind of fillery feeling but I love this brand of tragic loves story so you can sign me up anyway.
El Miserere: 3.25 ⭐️ Better than the other music one but there was just too much useless description. I liked the ending though.
El rayo de luna: 3.75 ⭐️ This one felt like when you wake up from a dream and are convinced the events of the dream actually happened.
