Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
5.0

I read this as part of my reading challenge under the category of "a book that intimidates you." Well, I didn't need to be intimidated. 1,037 pages long and I didn't want it to end. I never knew that this was Margaret Mitchell's first novel, or that it won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1937. It's also surprising that Mitchell never wrote another book.
I didn't want to carry this hefty volume with me on vacation, but couldn't quite finish it before departing. With just 5 pages left, I had to set it aside for over a week. When I returned home last night, I got to go back to Tara and finish. It's one of those books that you can get completely swept up in the setting. When I read this book, I was in the South in another time. To me, that's a mark of a good book. I'm so glad I finally read this one. I thought it was going to be like work, but it was a page-turning pleasure.
