I loved it, despite some repetitive writing "tics". It's been a while, but I remember really noticing how the MC would say "No," or repeat words a lot in protest to a character or event. Something like that. Perhaps that was a habit the writer intended the MC to have, but it felt awkward enough for me to notice. Or maybe it was annoying/meaningless which was why I noticed it. The MC isn't a particularly unique person, nor with traits that made me say, "Oh. I could see this as a real person with real inner-world depth with a history that started since the day she was born."
But all of those are minor complaints because everything else was executed smoothly. It wasn't overly predictable or basic, despite the writing definitely seeming to skew a bit younger. After all the books I DNF'd (found through recommendations on other sites based off of whatever itch I wanted sated) and disappointments for having such niche interests/standards that are hard to satisfy, this kept me reading the whole way through and eager to read the next book in the series.
I read it in 10 days--returned it 11 days early in Libby. While not perfectly tailored to my every whim, this book reminded me that reading can be fun and not awful.
