Ruby Fever by Ilona Andrews

Good

When the Warden’s office is attacked, Catalina and Alessandro find themselves on their own. It begins with a murder to solve, but gets deeper and deeper, until it’s obvious that their old nemesis Arkan is behind it all.
The problem is, that it’s almost impossible to beat Arkan, and unless they do, Catalina might just find her entire family destroyed…

Catalina and Alessandro’s trilogy comes to a dramatic conclusion in this book- but it’s not as easy as it sounds.
Dealing with attacks on multiple fronts, the Baylor family, mostly without Connor and Nevada’s help, have to deal with Arkan, the Prime who is seemingly invincible.
Plots within layered plots are revealed (and at least one more is started for some unknowing future), and the truth behind what Catalina (and yes Nevada too) were dealing with is finally exposed.

This is a very well written series, with an impressively complex plot: precisely what I’ve come to expect from these talented authors, and the reason they’re on my favourites list.
Catalina begins as a fairly nervous person, and develops into a strong and cunning leader. She might not be as likeable a character as Nevada to begin with, but she definitely grows on you.
Both she and Alessandro have been through the wringer, and this has forged them in fire, making them stronger. She is still young though, and has a lot to learn as we see in the book.

The authors have left the doors open for future books in the world they’ve created, but have also written it so that it works if this is the last (I’m personally hoping for Arabella to get her story).

This is an excellent urban fantasy/paranormal romance series, with a fantastic cast of characters. The world building is well done, and the stories engrossing.
If you haven’t read the entire series beginning with Nevada’s trilogy, I highly recommend starting there, and reading on through. It’s worth the time; but then is *is* an Ilona Andrews book, and they’re always worth the read!
Highly recommended for urban fantasy fans, paranormal romance lovers, and of course, the Book Devouring Horde that is made up of Ilona and Gordon’s fans!
