Where do I even start with this lil gem from the ocean?!?!?!? I could talk about this book for hours on end. Gushing and singing its praises to high heaven. A masterpiece in concise and compelling writing that I will revisit for years to come. Saenz hit the ball out of the park with this coming of age story. The characters are full of life and make you want to root for their happy endings. Ari and Dante are precious little beans and you want to reach into the book and hug them with every beginning of a chapter. Broken into multiple parts spanning over the course of two summers, this is a story about a teenage Mexican American boy coming to terms with himself, his sexuality, and his family. The tenderness between Ari and Dante is palpable and the way they understand and secretly unravel for one another to become closer is breathtaking. Would recommend this read to anyone and it's a definite recommendation for young queer people everywhere.
