Becky Chambers' The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet was such a surprisingly heartfelt and engaging read I've had in a long time.
I found myself tearing up constantly! The amount of character and attachment Chambers is able to create throughout this novel is astounding. I found myself loving pretty much every new addition to the cast, and loving our original cast even more as each of their life's and stories are revealed.

This is a masterful almost slice-of-life-esque sci-fi adventure with the most loveable crew a girl could ask for. The story starts with the introduction of a new team member (Rosemary) to an already established crew which is a masterful way of introducing both us and Rosemary to a vast array of both characters and species. To my surprise Rosemary isn't always kept as the audience surrogate which enables us to get an even closer and more personal look at each character. Every one of the crew has their moment to shine and therefore I love them all and would die for them.
I can't wait to continue the reading Becky Chambers' work, whether that's with this crew or a whole new group.

My rating: 5 stars!
Though Chambers had no right ripping out my heart with that ending.
