A memoir-in-verse written by a native America writer and artist. I’ve never read anything like it. I wish I had listened to it because sometimes I feel like poetry is meant to be heard, but I would’ve missed out on the original art and photos scattered throughout. The book begins with the stories of his grandparents attending a government school in Pennsylvania and follows up with the consequences of those decisions then unspools into his life and upbringing as an Onondaga member living among Tuscaroras in upstate New York. Beautifully written!
