Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

adventurous dark funny mysterious tense medium-paced

3.0

Certainly entertaining, but not my fave. It felt unnecessarily chaotic . It’s funny and slapstick but lacked the character depth and cohesion that would make it great.

I think the who-done-it portion of the book was the strongest segment. But the first half, and then the ending reveal didn’t do it for me.

Also major pet peeve that the author changes what name (first, last, nickname) she calls a character in the middle of a scene. In a book that’s already hard to follow, that just felt like an editing issue and made things needlessly messy.
