You could easily mistake Red Rising for another Hunger Games knockoff, but if that made you write this series off, you'd be doing yourself a disservice. Pierce Brown has a gift of breaking down sweeping space epics into microcosms where we follow Darrow's adventures at The Institute, where the children of the galaxy's most privileged learn the art of war, against the backdrop of a much larger political agenda. I loved this book and the other two in the Red Rising trilogy (I know there's a whole series now), to me this is about as good as the Sci Fi genre gets.
