Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base
by Annie Jacobsen
This was a very helpful book in the sense of better understanding the ways of the American government. Though many things are still classified, as the author mentions throughout, a lot of things were major breakthroughs. Some things I probably would have rather not known, but now I understand to a certain extent what Area 51 is. Nobody fully knows the purposes of Area 51, as the author also mentions, only a few people have a need-to-know, and even then, they only know what they themselves are working on.
I also notice inner conflict (which I'm not entirely surprised by) in the American government. We have many different departments and subdivisions and whatnot; yet we have the hardest time working together.
The United States government is depicted in this book as it truly is: ignorant. I love my country, but I am not proud of what goes on behind everyone's back. Some things just aren't the case.
Area 51 is like the subtitle says, a military base; I doubt anyone will ever know the complete truth. That's sad, and almost scary for the future. Indeed, what will happen to us?
