Elysium Fire by Alastair Reynolds

4.0

When a mysterious 'plague' starts boiling the brains - from the inside - of Glitter Band citizens, the Prefects of Panoply are once again caught up in an emergency. Is this the work of Aurora, or the Clockmaker, or something new? And such terrible timing, as a demagogue-like trouble maker is encouraging habitats to break away and declare independence from the policing force that clearly can't protect them...

Read on the heels of the first in the series, this was a welcome return to the world of Tom Dreyfus. I still think we've yet to see the best story set in this marvellous universe, so I'm hoping there more to come!
