Good or God?: Why Good Without God Isn't Enough by John Bevere
2.0
tl;dr: What we think is good may only be short-term good. Only through God can we know long-term good.
I suspect it can be difficult to rate a book based on its quality as opposed to whether or not we agree with the conclusions of a book. As much as an imperfect person can, I rated this book based on its quality only.
The basic premise could have been covered in 10 pages, but the author digresses into a stream of consciousness for most of the book. He loves examples and adores analogies, especially the ones where the point is obvious within seconds. The author's thinking is certainly US-centric despite a topic that should have worldly scope.
The author has obviously read the Bible numerous times, and he's very upfront about which parts he takes literally and which parts he considers to be analogies. Unsurprisingly, what he chooses to focus on is also very much US-centric.
