The only reason I brought this up to the 2 star is that I think she took the classic in a bold direction. It makes a statement, though honestly from what I read Alcott would have preferred Jo to be single, perhaps asexual, rather than a lesbian. However, I do appreciate why the author made the choice she made and how she wrote in the reactions. I know the original book is critiqued for being too saccharine but this graphic novel seems to have retained only that quality. All the tension and drama of the original was sacrificed for length and character development. Without retaining enough of the plot it just got boring and everything was rosy/cheery for 95% of the book.
