this book took a little while to get into, but once I was hooked, I was HOOKED.

the exploration of Black motherhood and daughterhood, of the realities of intergenerational trauma and racism and grief, everything was new to me and real and so informative. the Arthurian retelling was intriguing, if reminiscent of Cassandra Clare. nothing can top the Infernal Devices, but this was close x
