The Defector by Daniel Silva

5.0

This, the 9th entry in the fantastic Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva, is a direct sequel to the preceding novel, "Moscow Rules". The Russian oligarch who Gabriel beat in that earlier book is back and out for vengeance. This time, they mess with Gabriel's wife and things get ugly. This book is far more cold-blooded and bloody than others in the series. The characters and pacing are excellent, and I did not see the final twist coming at all. The Gabriel Allon series is one of the best in the entire spy genre, so I highly recommend it, but start from the beginning and read them all.
