So I had some problems with this book and did not like it
PLEASE NOTE : these are all my thoughts they may not apply to everyone
(TW: mentions of hp and jkr)
First of all the cover
Irene is supposed to be a Indian American and as a south Asian person myself she does not look south asian at all to me I really had to zoom in ALOT and then also it was hard it tell. (I know that people are incredibly different but the rep was a little misleading I thought that she was black and was expecting a different character so when Irene was introduced I thought she was going to stay the mean girl and not the love interest so I was really confused for a while ) Also the rep just seems like a thing for the author to give herself bonus points
Second the Harry Potter mentions. This book has been published in 2021 the author had no right to constantly add hp references in a book made for queer people. JKR has continued to be transphobic and her behavior can not be excused
Third it calls being queer a trend I don’t think I need to explain how wrong that is even if was only said once
Lastly the book was quite poorly written. It was soooo cliche I gave up when (spoiler alert) goes out with her toxic ex again I just couldn’t take it like even the drama was bad. I didn’t like Scottie she was REALLY problematic and misogynist herself. The only character I liked was Irene and that’s it
I was really disappointed by this book and I don’t recommend reading it
