The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

3.0

Picked this up again because I wanted a cute romance and was a bit sick of smut… clearly forgetting there’s a good chunk of smut in this anyway. Still a cute read but I bumped my initial 4 star review down to a 3.5.

This was such a cute read, not a book I would probably pick up usually but Read With Cindy's review got me intrigued.

Stella and Michael have such a cute and healthy relationship and I love the way the whole plot is set up, I loved that it wasn't disparaging to sex workers - Stella never judges him for his work and even states that if he enjoyed his work it would be one thing but she wanted him to have the freedom of choice. I feel like romance books more than often have some pretty yikes dynamics but this was just wholesome. Not without its angst but two good kind people finding happiness with each other.

I also liked that Stella was the wealthy successful one and Michael was the artsy one - we usually always see this in the reverse so it was nice to get it the other way around.

Though I can't speak to the quality of the representation I did think it did a good job of discussing autism, it was always present but not the main focus - and there was nothing that struck me as problematic, though I would not be the person to speak on that either way. I also loved the Vietnamese representation, Asian love interests are few and far between and I loved the inclusion of Michael's culture.

All in all a very cute book, I look forward to reading the next two!
