Infinity Alchemist by Kacen Callender
5.0
I cannot get over how stunningly beautiful this book is. Reading it felt so nice and comfy. I am just … in love! And the all-queer main cast of diverse characters is everything! The way Callender describes magic, the love between the characters, and love as an encompassing aspect of magic; so beautiful! They were the exact person to write this book. And all of it compiles ever so nicely into a perfect light-fantasy, quest-ly romance.

I just cannot get over how stunningly beautiful this book is. I am in love! And the all-queer cast of diverse characters is everything! Honestly, it is the best book I have read in a while. There was never a time when I dreaded picking up this book.
It starts off giving the vibes of Harry Potter - only because we start at an elite magic school with a groundskeeper and password doors - but quickly turns into something so much better. The way the author uses a spiritual magic system. The way they describe the love between the love interests. The way they describe love in general as an encompassing aspect of the world. So beautiful. And all of it compiles ever so nicely into a perfect light-fantasy, magic, love story.
Two aspects in this book really stood out to make it a step above others; the polyamorous main relationship, and two of the main characters' explorations of gender.
Polyamory is an often unexplored topic in fiction books, mostly because (I think) it is hard to introduce and navigate. However, Callender made another beautiful decision in the way they built the relationship between the three main characters. It’s slow, a little turbulent, and in the end, it just works. The reader clearly understands that through the narration in a way where their love for each other becomes simple fact.
I love a book that explores gender outside of the gender-binary without stereotypes or intense drama. It is something I consistently search for in queer literature. Callender’s subtle, yet immensely meaningful inputs on characters’ gender throughout the story really enhanced the gender-queer characters in an amazing way.
This book is absolutely fabulous for so many reasons and I really enjoyed how beautiful the writing was. I literally cannot get over how nice and comfy reading this book felt.
