The Snow Queen
by Hans Christian Andersen
The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in late September.
Fairly scattered and a little dark with its themes of kidnapping/lost children, The Snow Queen is a lot like Little Red Riding Hood (child on an errand outside, grandmother figure) and somewhat like Frozen (siblings who are separated between 'normality' and polar magic powers, anonymous Nordic setting). The absolutely gorgeous illustrations save its faltering storyline many times with its Swedish, almost batik-like style.
