Malorie by Josh Malerman

3.0

3.5 stars. (The book/story itself gets a satisfying 3, but because of the sheer level of enjoyment I got from seeing more resolution of Malorie and the kids' story...another half-star up!)

I was certainly pulled into this one from the very beginning. As the highly anticipated follow up to Bird Box, I think it was a solid work. I'm not sure I was quite as enthralled with this one as I was its predecessor, however, I still enjoyed it!

I was a little underwhelmed by Malorie. (For the record, I completely recognize that it's due to my own personal biases and failings. :D ) She was so much less badass...so much more cowed and beaten down. YES, I GET IT. Of COURSE she's feeling cowed and beaten down. She's been raising two children in constant terror for the past decade...but it was still hard to see her like that.

Regardless, the storyline was propulsive and entertaining, and there were definitely some really tense moments throughout. Recommended if you are a Bird Box fan!
