Okay this was...? Good and bad...? I kind of enjoyed the plot, it was very predictable but the concept of bonded direwolves is pretty cool, and I liked the dynamics of the trials (I will always love a trials to the death storyline lol) but. BUT! Meryn... was so butt-headed about everything, it made me want to scream. And the sheer number of sex scenes was so unnecessary like why is the first one literally on page FORTY SEVEN. out of SIX HUNDRED. I skipped all of them anyway because yawn, I'm not here for that. And having so many sex scenes with a non-endgame character who you can guess is evil from the very beginning is so odd to me. There should have been more tension with Stark from the start and less on-page explicit scenes with Killian who we all KNOW IS GOING TO TURN OUT EVIL ANYWAY. And literally that is just because he is blonde while Stark has black hair. That's how you know.
So: I had an okay time but it was very cringe at times (Meryn's nicknames from the love interest(s) being kitten and princess... gross. made me full body shiver in disgust every time) and I wish she wasn't so gd stubborn all the time. Also she goes from weak little commoner to all powerful leader sooo fast it's kind of wild and really comes out of nowhere. Anassa is the best character by FAR, and she's literally a wolf.
One good thing about Meryn is the fact that she's TALL. Finally not a tiny little heroine who's 140cm while her lover is like 200cm. FINALLY. Shame every decision she made was stupid and made me want to tear my hair out.
