Where the Deer and the Antelope Play: The Pastoral Observations of One Ignorant American Who Loves to Walk Outside by Nick Offerman

3.0

This was nice to casually listen to in Offerman’s voice—hence 3 stars. For content it’s more like 2. There really isn’t much substance here. I guess it’s nice to know that this celebrated “manly” actor is a staunch feminist and democrat. His diatribe against Brett Kavanaugh is even therapeutic. Really this book is a bunch of musings, as the title suggests. There’s not much of a current here. I’d rather Offerman had taken a very narrow story approach—maybe even an essay format—to allow him to dig deeper into what he’s trying to say about National parks and traveling the US in an airstream during the pandemic and sustainable shepherding in the UK.
