Ain't I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism by bell hooks
Ain't I a Woman is such an influential work that, while reading, I could clearly see where other writers & theorists had been inspired by bell hooks. And yet, there was still so much in this book that was new to me, made accessible by hooks' straightforward writing.
I will say that it's a wild ride reading Ain't I a Woman in the year 2022. I can see where these ideas have influenced not just theorists, but also movements from intersectional feminism to the current state of feminists and leftist activists. I was debating which of her books to start with, and I'm glad I chose this one.
I am really curious how hooks has responded to the movements that followed Ain't I a Woman, though... which I guess means I have more reading to do!
