Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

Literal Black Girl Magic! This is the story I've wanted for so long. A fantasy story that featured Black people, Black girls wielding such beautiful magic. A story I wish I had when I was younger. Being able to see Black people do the things I've only seen reserved for white male lead fantasy novels. But, my God it is a gut-wrenching story. There is so much tragedy in this story, so much pain and heartbreak. Yet underneath it all is hope. Hope that change will always be possible.

I loved the setting of this story. A fictionalized Africa interwoven with Yoruba, beautifully read to me by Bahni Rurpin. I loved the characters, I loved the world this story exists in. I literally just finished it and am starting the sequel. Highly, highly, highly recommend.
