CW: Sexual assault (heavy), infant/child death, language, death + violence, pregnancy out of wedlock + shaming
This book is a heavy read. It deals with the topics of sexual assault and other crimes against women. Although it is difficult to stomach at times, I couldn’t stop listening to the audiobook. It was very well done and the story kept me engaged. The historical setting was fun and I loved the midwife angle. While I didn’t like some blanket statements made against men in the book, I appreciated that the author had examples of strong, kind men that protected and loved their women to balance it out. 4.5 stars
