Excellent story following multiple characters’ journeys of growth, becoming better than they were for each other, but also for themselves. Wang’s writing evokes a feeling of connection with almost every character you meet and the background information expertly woven into the story encouraged empathy even for the characters you may initially dislike. Main themes include grief, loss, regret, oppression but also determination, hope, strength, and growth. Wonderful description of the magic system in this work - the language used is so immersive that the reader can vividly imagine the physical feeling of the magic and clearly comprehend the capabilities of those who wield it. Overall a fantastic un-put-down-able read!
