This story is about Briana, who is Alexis' bestie from book #1 in the series. I've read some reviews saying you can read these books out of order; I don't get that as if you do, you are in for some spoilers! Also, you miss all the background info on both minor and major characters so don't get why some people are saying that?? Anyhoo...
I really loved this book. Abby just gets how to write romance for the modern woman without making them into desperate-can't-live-without-a-man garbage like so many other romance books. I found I could relate to Jacob, and Briana is just an awesome character.
I personally liked this book more than book #1 simply because of how Abby so terrifically, authentically and respectfully wrote about mental health. It is realistic and like all folks that have anxiety they are not pathetic and it does not define who they are or their value. At the end how Brianahit her rock bottom and realised her lack of trust in men is not just because of her ex but from her dad abandoning her and from her mamma's experience of men and what she inadvertently taught Briana, was just so sad but just so good because I totally got her meltdown and immense fear of creating a life with Jacob. Her seeking counselling for herself in addition to couples therapy for her and Jacob made me smile because again I could relate to this and made me feel less weird. I like too that this book looks at autoimmune disease and its impact on the individual and their family; waiting for organ donation etc.
Shared experience is a comfort and I'm finding that is how I feel about Abby's books, they make you feel less alone, find you have more in common with others and are less strange than you previously thought.
Abby, like I seem say like a broken record (!!) JUST GETS IT.
NOTE: this book has one scene of low/moderate spice and some saucy language but not much :)
