Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!
by Mo Willems
I will fully admit from the start that Mo Willems is one of my favorite children's authors of the last 10 years. I get his humor, love his simple illustrations, and have the best time reading his books to kids (or to myself).
I introduced this book to my children's literature class as a read-aloud. The pictures are large and simple, so it is an easy book to share with the book. The text is simple, and there are lots of opportunities for the reader to emote. And yes, the pigeon is a brat. A real PITA. (S)he is written like a young child begging their parents/older siblings to be allowed to do something they know is forbidden. And even though I'm an only child with no kiddos of my own, I related to this experience and found it to be amusing.
I highly recommend this book for parents and librarians to use for story time. It's short, cute, fun, and funny for all ages.
