Erdrich packed a LOT into one novel. It’s really several closely intertwined stories, as well as some “side stories” twisted in that weren’t always deep or resolved but felt like they added depth and color to the community in the book. Midway through I wasn’t sure I would love it, but the last third sucked me in completely and left me more than satisfied. This was my third Erdrich novel and I continue to believe she’s one of the world’s best writers.
