When I read "Red, White and Royal Blue" I had a very different experience from my friends who read the book - in other words, I didn't feel it was worthy of 5 or 4 stars... - but one thing I did agree with is that Casey McQuiston knows how to do fluff and is a great writer. They just needed to write about people who were Just Two Regular Joes, rather than the first son and the prince. And so I gave One Last Stop a go to see what they could do when they do write about Just Two Regular Joes.

Just as I expected, they were fantastic at it. I really related to August in how she's been in school forever and doesn't know how to not be in school (I felt more than a little called out as I'll be graduating in May). I loved Niko and Myla and Wes and Jane and Isaiah. Each and every one of these characters were so unique from each other that I never had to wonder who was talking.

I don't think I was expecting the magical realism aspect of it but as soon as that showed up I was like "you know what? I actually like this, yeah, this is working for me." I wasn't sure how it would end and I thought it could go either way and still work. (Ending spoilers)
And I was glad that it ended before Jane went to talk to her parents and sisters again. I'm glad they didn't tell us how that worked out and that we were left to just imagine for ourselves.

I also appreciate Adult books that have tenderness during their sex scenes. Which is another thing McQuiston does well. The sex scenes in this book are always accompanied with moments of romantic tenderness between the two which was lovely.

Reading this book was so much fun and I can't wait for their YA debut later this year!
