Wildwood Whispers by Willa Reece

2.0

I had high expectations from this book and I felt that they were somehow delivered but not all the way and not consistently.

Willa Reece's writing is spellbinding. I always wanted to listen to the narrator read the next sentence and the idea of magic being stepped in nature and women villagers greatly appealed to me. The theme of the story which is female camaraderie, love for nature and eco-feminism is amazingly established too. Each page is about the theme of the story and the lessons the readers gets from the book are very clear and very specific like respecting each other's boundaries, taking care of nature and supporting women.

This is where the book stopped for me though. The external stakes were predictable, and the character arcs felt a bit stagnant. I think the book started off with a blast, a big BOOM!, and a powerful premise, but because the stakes were so high from early on, it failed to capture my attention throughout and deliver unexpected twists and turns.

At the end of the day, this book is enjoyable for readers who exclusively enjoy Women's Fiction and not the fantasy genre.
