I enjoy everything Sarah Waters writes, but I enjoyed this less than her other books. It simultaneously didn’t feel like 600 pages and felt like it was dragging on forever. I found the romance to be slightly unconvincing compared to Fingersmith for example, and the characters less engaging. But a very enjoyable story and I didn’t predict what would happen when I first started reading.
