I don't often give novellas 5 stars. Usually something about it feels lacking, which makes sense because authors have to accomplish a novel's worth of storytelling in a much shorter space. But this one just hit the mark. I read it in a single sitting, and was completely engrossed the entire time.

Tesh's writing is beautiful and lyrical without feeling overwritten. Her descriptions of the forest are so atmospheric, it made me want to go visit one, even though I have an intense dislike of creepy crawlies. The story feels like it is steeped in folklore. It feels magical, even though nothing overtly magical happens until much later. The budding romance between Tobias and Silver is sweet as well, and I enjoyed getting to see their relationship develop.
