I’m still enjoying the Lord of the Rings series, especially all of the characters. This book was split very clearly in two parts: the first part focused on Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Merry and Pippin, and the second part on Frodo and Sam.

Personally, I would have preferred for the split to be less clear, and the chapters to have intermingled with each other. Having just finished the book (and therefore the second part), I’ve already forgotten where the first part finished, and it’s given the stories a disjointed feel.

I also didn’t quite gel with the writing as much as the first book, although it may be because the plot wasn’t as fast-moving (especially in the second part) and it was more descriptive.

My favourite part of the series continues to be the characters, particularly the strong friendship between Frodo and Sam. I am excited to finish the trilogy and find out how the story will conclude!
