The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty

4.0

While an earlier book, this is one of my favorites from Moriarty. The island setting provides some excellent narrative boundaries, and allows an almost fairytale-like story to emerge. As in many of her stories, the lives of women, and the difficult choices they make, are at the heart of the book.

Sidenote: food allergies are used as a plot device, and in this case I think it's done fairly well. As a parent of a child who has anaphylaxis, it's always distressing to read a story where allergic reactions are used to harm a character. This isn't the best and most realistic writing, especially regarding the urgency of a reaction (they are on an island!!!!), however, the allergies are taken seriously and is by no means minimized.
