The Candles Are Burning
by Veronica G. Henry
'The Candles Are Burning' is really well written, and I think Henry's style lent itself to the subject of the narrative. The candle imagery was strong, and I definitely felt connected to the protagonist and her struggles, which is impressive given the shortness of the text. I think there was an element of rush towards the end, with ideas that felt a little underdeveloped, but I did like the conclusion and found it to be satisfying. This story definitely appealed to my interest in death and the afterlife, and as such, I enjoyed it a lot.
